A Warm Welcome

In Yokote, we stayed at the Yū-yū Plaza Hotel ryokan, where they went to great lengths to make us feel welcome. Uncertain of our ability to communicate in Japanese, the staff had appointed their best English speaker to guide us and had prepared many English phrases in advance.

They also post these signboards in the lobby to greet each day's new guests. This small gesture really makes a guest feel welcome! We were especially amused because the pre-printed character at the bottom of each board is sama, an honorary suffix for names that is commonly translated as "Mr.". So this sign welcomes Mr. Mr. Davis to the hotel.
